$166,050 negotiable depending on experience.

How this position will Make the Difference to City of Melbourne…

City Design is a multidisciplinary design studio that provides design advice and services to shape and deliver world class buildings and places.

The Program Manager provides essential support to the Director City Design and leadership to the business support and specialist design functions of the branch. Key areas of focus for the role are program oversight, business optimisation, reporting and innovation. As the primary point of contact for all service requests to the branch, the Program Manager works closely with City Design Managers and design specialists, to establish and report on an annual program of Capital Works and Maintenance projects delivered across a multidisciplinary design branch.

The Program Manager assists the Director to identify and report on metrics for communication/advocacy, customer satisfaction/community sentiment and design achievements. A key requirement of the role is identifying and implementing better processes and outputs for program management.

The Program Manager is a key member of the City Design leadership group and will actively contribute to the branch’s purpose of ensuring that Melbourne remains a world leading ‘design city’.

  • Ability to demonstrate and display City of Melbourne Values – accountability, integrity, courage, respect for self and others, and striving for excellence.
  • Degree and/or equivalent qualification in architecture, landscape architecture or urban design or other relevant experience.
  • Proven experience in built environment design and delivery methodologies, with an ability to coach and mentor others.
  • Experience in program management, including business optimisation and reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and manage complex projects and tasks, and to implement projects of excellence on time and to budget.
  • Highly developed analytical and lateral thinking skills and the ability to take initiative, drive changes and implement innovations.
  • Proven high level of written and verbal communication skills including the ability to produce and present concise, compelling and evidence based reports and presentations.
  • Solid understanding of relevant legislation, policies and best practice in design procurement, review and delivery, ideally within a government environment.
  • Proven ability to support functional design teams and senior leadership groups to achieve collective ambitions. An understanding and experience in Local Government desirable.
