How this position will Make the Difference to City of Melbourne…


As the Senior Open Space Planner you will be responsible for developing master plans, policies and strategies to ensure the city’s open space network continues to enable an inclusive, resilient and liveable city.


You will bring a high standard of critical and rigorous analysis of proposals and reports related to open space network outcomes, including city-shaping precinct planning for urban renewal areas and sensitive management of Melbourne’s significant heritage landscapes.


The ideal candidates would have a background in a similar role or related field and sound knowledge in project management for medium to large, complex projects.

  • Ability to demonstrate and display City of Melbourne Values – accountability, integrity, courage, respect for self and others, and striving for excellence.
  • A tertiary qualification in Recreation, Landscape Architecture, Planning, Natural Resource Management, Horticulture, or equivalent.
  • Relevant professional experience and applied knowledge of open space planning.
  • Highly developed analytical and lateral thinking skills and demonstrated experience in solving complex problems relating to open space networks, Crown land management, parks and gardens or environmental management.
  • Highly developed project management skills and demonstrated experience in managing projects within timelines and budgets.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills with an ability to represent Council in public forums and to negotiate win-win outcomes.
  • Ability to select, supervise and monitor the performance of consultants undertaking the preparation of reports and other projects.
