How this position will Make the Difference to City of Melbourne…

The Program Director City Activation will play a key role in planning and delivering a number of interrelated City of Melbourne Covid19 city transformation projects. The purpose is to design and prepare our city for the safe return of pedestrians, support businesses in their return to trade, enhance cycle movement across our city and encourage visitors back into the city in a safe, fun, and inviting way.

You will be responsible for working across multiple technical areas to coordinate and deliver concurrent projects in a fast paced environment, including program planning and leadership, project management, stakeholder management, consultation, supporting businesses with a “one stop shop” approach, project delivery and communications management.

The Program Director is jointly accountable with the General Manager Capital Projects and Infrastructure for the achievement of the City Activation Program, working autonomously across the City of Melbourne and with key internal and external stakeholders to successfully deliver on the objectives.

Success in this position requires a proven track record in complex project leadership, collaboration, influencing, relationship management, sound judgement and communication.

This role is diverse and dynamic, and an amount of inventiveness is regularly required to develop new solutions which will have a broad and lasting impact.

  • Ability to demonstrate and display City of Melbourne Values – accountability, integrity, courage, respect for self and others, and striving for excellence.
  •  Relevant tertiary qualification and/or significant equivalent experience and proven achievement in strategic/corporate business planning, project management, design, place making or related disciplines.
  • Advanced Program management capability and extensive demonstrated experience working across multiple technical areas to deliver concurrent projects in a fast paced environment with a significant external interface.
  • Extensive experience in project management, including development and management of complex projects in a large and diverse organisation with multiple stakeholders.
  • High level interpersonal, negotiation, persuasion and problem solving skills with the ability to use discretion and judgement when working within a complex business and political environment.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) communication skills including the ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders and to build and manage relationships critical to the delivery of the project.
  • Highly developed analytical and lateral thinking skills and the ability to take the initiative, drive and implement change.
  • Track record of successfully managing a similar Program of work of this size and complexity.
